I just HAVE TO share with you something that I’m just loving right now. I’m kind of a beauty product junkie but there is nothing I hate more than taking a risk and buying a product, especially if it’s pricey, and then not liking it. There it will sit in my bathroom cupboards until they are overflowing, and then I either try and pawn it off on my mom (in general, she usually loves my cast offs) or sadly, end up throwing it away completely.
The other thing I love is getting mail. Real mail. There is just something about opening up a real letter, or better, a package, in lieu of mounds of useless junk mail or worse, bills.
So, for the best of both worlds… enter in, Birchbox! Birchbox is an awesome company I heard about on a beauty blog I follow a few months ago. It’s a subscription service which mails a monthly box out to subscribers containing various products from a huge variety of brands, all in sample sizes. This allows you to try a product out before you make the commitment to shell out the cash for something you don’t like or something that doesn’t work for you. They have a great selection, and enclose samples based on a short profile you can fill out, and every month is a surprise. So far, I’m loving it. It’s like a little box of treats at my front door.
June’s Box contained:
- Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Glisten
- Kate Spade Twirl fragrance
- Nuxe Reve De Miel Ultra Comforting Body Cream
- Pureology Strengthening Control Zero Dulling Hairspray
- Tatcha Aburatorigami Blotting Papers
- Herban Essentials Orange Towelettes
The Pros: It’s only $10 a month and you can subscribe just one month at a time or for a complete year for a price break and a $10 credit towards products (Birchbox also sells the full-sized products they send). The box is different every month and contains several samples from various brands (complete list is on their website), some very high end that you wouldn’t be able to try otherwise. They have a great site and a sort of blog that you can follow.
The Cons: Honestly, if you are a west coast subscriber, shipping takes a very long time. From the initial email you receive letting you know it has shipped to receiving on the west coast can be up to 10 days until receipt. That is a long time, even for postal service mail. It concerns me how long these packages may be sitting out in the elements, especially in our extreme high summer temps. So far, nothing has come damaged or melted, but it just concerns me. Also, I could stand for a few more samples than they give, but maybe that’s just the greedy side of me?
If you are beauty product lover and want to try before you buy, I highly recommend it. If you love mail and getting little treats, and if the $10 is worth it to you, I think you’ll love it.
