Long time, no blog, I know. At least here in the Sweet Peony world. Life has been quite full and busy, not only with the rapidly approaching holidays but with the news were learned in September, that I’m pregnant with our first little one, due May 2012. That alone is cause for a lot of busy-ness and distractions!
It’s pretty nerdy of me to return with THIS kind of post, but I will share the design and color nerd part of me that loves the annual announcement of Pantone’s 2012 Color of the Year. Working in the publishing business probably plays a lot into my excitment, but it’s just fun to hear what the “it” color for the year is supposed to be.
This year’s color? Tangerine Tango!
A fiery electric orange red. I’m admittedly torn with this year’s color as I have quite a passionate hate for anything orange. Orange is just not my color – in decorating, in wardrobe, in… well everything. My best friend can attest to how much I hate all things orange. But, orange, I have noticed, has become a bit of a hot color in the past year or so. I’m seeing it more and more in clothing and quite a bit in home decor. But this color, with it’s kiss of red, is a lot of fun. It reminds me of a really amped up coral, and ironically, coral is one of my favorite colors.
Though the media, and Pantone itself, has done a great job compiling examples of the use of this color, especially since it is part of the Pantone’s Spring Palette for 2012, I though I would gather up some of my faves. Enjoy the Tangerine Tango parade!

I would much rather get on board with a hint of tangerine on my nails than a tangerine nightmare of an outfit or an interior filled with it!

Love the warm, fall-feeling of this scarf and the black trim makes it super wearable with any basic wardrobe.

Though I love the tangerine explosion of this late summer wedding. It really is a statement color and really ads some brightness to the muted bride in white.

This photo makes me appreciate the amazing color combo of turquoise and tangerine. I AM IN LOVE!

You’d have to be pretty bold to pull this off and I’m not sure I have the bravery. This coming from a woman who rarely even wears lipstick anymore. 🙂

Sweet print with a very true saying. My mind is a complete mess 90% of the time!

Leave it to the gurus at Martha Stewart to make tangerine so classy by combining it with a soft gray.

I want to crawl into this shirt and fall asleep forever. The color is sure bold but the cut is so forgiving and I just love the slouchy retro feel of an off the shoulder top. Of course, being pregnant, I would run the risk of looking more like a jack o’ lantern than a chic fashionista.

I think the best approach to a color this bold is to use it precisely and sparingly. I love the pop of color it adds to this muted room.
