If there ever were an overdue post, this one is certainly it. I’ve been trying to find the time to share B’s nursery for weeks now. But motherhood is a busy game, my friends.
I am absolutely thrilled with how B’s nursery turned out. Once again, it was a labor of love to build and design this special space for my second boy to rest, to grow and to flourish in our home. As we all know, I am not a fan of themes, so I started out with a color palette in mind. Well, I actually started with the shade of navy blue in my mind (as that was going to be the base shade whether we had a girl or boy). So, when we heard the word “boy” yet again at 20 weeks, I started to think about the complementing colors and came up with canary yellow and my tried and true, white and gray.
Right after seeing this color palette before my eyes and thinking about the space I knew that it would have to do with the sky. I’m a nature nerd and I love to look at the sky – clouds, the moon, stars and rays of light. I am a sky watcher for sure. How to translate this into a non-themey or cheesy nursery was a challenge. But I think we did pretty well.
I was really blessed this time around to have the bulk of my nursery pieces and accessories given as gifts from family or from the baby shower I was thrown. Our financial situation was a bit different with this baby so it was more challenging to design on a very tight budget. Thankfully, I’m pretty gifted at that.
Though vinyl decals are probably considered a bit passe, I really like how much interested and contrast it added to the room, and the little DREAM banner was well, just a dream of a find.
The hardest item to get a hold of was actually the gray crib. I always seem to be right ahead of trends, even in the baby world, so getting a hold of one of these took months! Worth it though. I love the look and I love that it’s convertible so that it will transition with him as he grows.
I also put a lot of time and attention into his dresser and diaper changing area. We bought this large dresser from a local sort of salvage store and refinished it using chalk paint. It was also a major chore! But it turned out so beautifully. I love the sort of masculine touch of the metal peg boards as well, and they are surprisingly functional!
Always a special spot is the nursing chair, which was one of my favorite spot’s in M’s room after he was born. This chair, that swivels and reclines, is no exception.
I just love everything about this room and all the details. I actually designed these sweet prints based on song lyrics that talk about the sky… I mean, I’m dedicated when I dream (and design).
Even though this photo is last, it is the first thing I bought for the nursery. It has a very special place in my heart as I sing this song to sweet B almost every night that I lay him down to sleep.
To think that B is my last child and that I don’t get to design another special space for another blessed little child sort of kills me inside. What a blessing these early years have been and how very full they have made our home. I love these rooms and the boys that fill them so very much.
